Commemorating Remembrance Day at Vita et Pax Prep School

At Vita et Pax Prep School in Enfield, North London, our school community gathered with deep solemnity and respect to commemorate Remembrance Day. This year’s observance was particularly special as all classes participated in creating their own poppy wreaths, which were presented in a moving Year 6-led remembrance assembly. The red poppies, a universal symbol of remembrance and hope, stood as a powerful reflection of our collective commitment to honouring those who have fought, served, and sacrificed in wars to protect the peace we hold dear today.

The Year 6-led assembly was a poignant and emotional occasion that captured the true essence of Remembrance Day. The children read aloud original poems they had written, each one offering a heartfelt tribute to the soldiers who gave their lives for the freedoms we enjoy now. The poems, brimming with sincerity and reflection, expressed feelings of gratitude, sorrow, and respect for those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Through their creative writing, the students paid tribute to the fallen soldiers and acknowledged how their bravery and courage have shaped our present and future.

In addition to the poetry, our students and staff united in song, performing “Peace, Perfect Peace” and “We’ll Meet Again”—two songs with a deep emotional resonance and historical significance. These songs were chosen not only for their poignant lyrics but also for their power to unite the school in a shared moment of reflection. Singing these songs together allowed everyone present to honour the legacy of those lost in conflict, while also reaffirming our shared hope for a world where peace prevails.

At Vita et Pax, we believe that teaching the importance of remembrance is an essential part of nurturing young minds. Through this act of collective reflection, our students not only learn about the values of courage, sacrifice, and duty but also develop an understanding of the profound impact of history on their lives. The assembly served as an important reminder that the sacrifices made by past generations continue to shape the world we live in today.

This Remembrance Day was an invaluable opportunity for our school community to come together, reflect with gratitude, and reinforce our shared commitment to peace. As we paused to honour the fallen, we also reaffirmed our responsibility to cherish and protect the values of freedom, unity, and peace for future generations. It was a meaningful day that deepened our understanding of history and reinforced the importance of standing in solidarity with those who have shaped the course of our world.
